Autorun.Infected

Just realized my USB flash drive got infected by a virus. I haven’t used this since last Friday until earlier today. I initially thought that there was something funny about the way the icons are rendered until I noticed that the extensions of the folders were actually .exe. Haha The icons looked like crap.

Virus Infected USB Flash Drive

I saw the .dll.vbs file. Haha That’s really corny. My PC at home doesn’t actually get infected because it runs GNU/Linux so I had no worries. But at work, tsk, Wind0ze runs on every wall of the office. I don’t usually enable or select the autorun feature so I in a way prevent virii to run on USB flash drive insertion.

Spam Utilizes PDF

This is the first time I’ve heard of it and also the first time I’ve received it. This is crazy. GMail wasn’t able to detect it as spam. I don’t usually open files from sources that I’m not aware of as I fear to be surprised by malware or spyware executing at load times of applications like Word macros do, but this time I did because I was curious. And, hey, I’m using GNU/Linux. What could go wrong? Hehe. Here’s a screenshot of the PDF file.

I wonder how would anti-spam software differentiate spam from non-spam PDF files. PDF files can be dynamically generated using many tools like images can be generated dynamically using ImageMagick. They can contain images, which means it is possible to embed dynamically generated images in PDF files. Pretty neat.

Well then, what’s next? Flash swf format?
